Like success, excellence is the by-product of three things: 1. Your Attitude. Because your attitude determines the way you approach life and the way others respond to you. Your attitude has a powerful and overriding affect on all your activities. Take charge of your attitude. Life is largely what you want it to be. 2. Your Aspirations. Lofty goals require extraordinary effort, but they have extraordinary payoffs. Measure your every action by asking, “Is this my best?” 3. Your Actions. You must give your best, not some of the time, but all of the time! In every activity, do more than is expected. Go the extra mile; deliver the baker’s dozen. Actions are synonymous with execution.
If you want to get things done, I recommend you read the book, Execution, The Discipline of Getting Things Done, by Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan. The authors will convince you that only people who get satisfaction and gratification from getting things done will achieve goals.
At any point in time, your market may be up or down or neutral. But, the market is always right for those individuals who have the right attitude, extraordinary aspirations and determination to get the right things done, daily!
HOG THOUGHT: You will only become what you are becoming right now. Take your current sales quota, add 10% to it and go out and exceed it. Get out of your sandbox and comfort zone. Ships are safest when they are tied up at the dock. But, that’s not what they are made for. Comfort zones are for piglets, not Hogs. You won’t know how good you are until you try to go beyond what you’ve done before. Keep in mind Yoda's advice, “There is no try, only do!” So, you will not know how good you are until you are as good as you are.
HOG QUOTE: “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen filed of endeavor.” —Vincent T. Lombardi
HOG ACTION: Get rid of negative attitudes about yourself, your customer, your company, and your market. Go one step further and eliminate any negative attitudes about your competition. Competitors are real and they want your business. If they are competing they are doing something right. Look at them with a positive attitude so you actually know what you are going up against. Only then, can you design and execute a plan that proves your and your company’s excellence.
