Here is some advice and thoughts I have written down over the past 40 years regarding professionalism that you may want to consider. As I read or listened to people speak about professional selling, the advice seemed to share a common foundation: the first and most important product you sell is yourself. Somewhere in these 21 hog action steps you may find one that helps you sell your most important product.
In Action Step #9, I urge you to “identify opportunities for improvement.” This is really what the Hawg Blawg is about.
Hog Action Steps:
1 Project a professional and dependable image on each and ever sales call
2. Return calls with 5 to 10 minutes, if possible
3. Work with passion, commitment, and enthusiasm
4. Show respect for customers when they speak
5. Make good things happen
6. Keep raising the standard
7. Pay attention to details everyday
8. Execute better than anyone else does
9. Identify opportunities for improvement and then improve
10. Use time efficiently and effectively—there is a difference
11. Set priorities for each day
12. Be proactive; inject a sense of urgency into your work
13. Don’t confuse effort with results
14. Persevere—go the extra mile
15. Constantly evaluate your work habits
16. Keep promises
17. Show appreciation
18. Be confident, but not arrogant
19. Handle complaints quickly and fairly
20. Have a positive, optimistic attitude day-in and day-out
21. Remember, “Hope is not a method.”
